The Santos Great Bike Ride for Homeless Youth is Perth’s longest running community cycling event. Over the years the event has evolved and improved to make sure participants have the best experience possible.
Below are some frequently asked questions that will assist you in the lead up to the event and on event day:
What is the Santos Great Bike Ride for Homeless Youth?The Santos Great Bike Ride for Homeless Youth is the longest running community cycling event in Perth. The event is a fundraising event for St John of God Horizon House.
There are three distances available to ride in the event – 98km Ultimate Ride (a 2 lap ride); the 52km Challenge Ride; the NEW 29km Port to Perth Ride and the 10km Family Ride.
All participants have the opportunity to fundraise for our charity and by doing so go into the running for some great prizes.
Where does the Santos Great Bike Ride for Homeless Youth start?The Santos Great Bike Ride for Homeless Youth starts in the Perth CBD (98km, 52km and 10km) or Fremantle (29km).
The 98km Ultimate Ride, 52km Challenge Ride and the 10km Family Ride will all start in the WEST END of the Hay St Mall, Perth. The 29km Port to Perth Ride starts in the Beach St Carpark in Fremantle.
Are there cut off times for the event?Yes, the Santos Great Bike Ride for Homeless Youth does have cut off times for the 98km, 52km and 29km events.
Participants in the 98km Ultimate Ride must reach the Narrows Bridge on their first lap no later that 8.15am. Once commencing their second lap, participants must reach the Kwinana Fwy On Ramp at Canning Bridge no later than 10.20am.
Participants in the 52km Challenge Ride and the 32km Port to Perth Ride must reach the Kwinana Fwy On Ramp at Canning Bridge no later than 10.20am.
What happens if i’m not able to finish the ride?If you are not able to finish the ride either due to an injury or you simply cannot go on, the event ‘Tail End Charlie’ Bus will follow the last riders on the course and collect you as they drive past. This bus will then return you to the City of Perth Event Village (the Finish Line).
What happens if I do not reach the cut off times required?If you are not able to reach the cut off times, event crew on the ‘Tail End Charlie’ Bus that follow the last participants, will ask you either to move onto the bike paths and complete the event using only the bike paths. Or alternatively, the event crew will offer you a seat on the Tail End Charlie bus; this bus will follow the last participants and take you back to the City of Perth Event Village (the finish line).
Do I have to wear the New Event Jersey?Yes, in 2015 it is compulsory for all participants to wear the new event jersey/t-shirt that is included in your Santos Great Bike Ride for Homeless Youth entry fee.
What is included in my entry fee?Your entry fee includes, access and entry onto the course of your selected distance; the Event Jersey (98km or 52km) or T-shirt (29km or 10km) which is compulsory to wear on event day. Event number which includes timing technology to receive your time post event; a bottle of water post event; entertainment and activites in the City of Perth Event Village.
Does my entry fee go to the charities?No, entry fees go toward the running of the event including traffic management, medical staff, event infrastructure including fencing, shade structures and toilets, the event website and online registration sites, the new event jersey/t-shirt, and participant pack.
Can I get a refund once I have entered?As per the terms and conditions when entering online, no refunds are given on entry fees.
If you are no longer able to participate, you can transfer your entry to a friend or family member. To do this, please log into your entry and change all the personal details to the new entry. By doing this you must also recognise that the new participants is now agreeing to the terms and conditions of entry into the event.
What are the minimum ages to enter this event?There are minimum ages to enter this event depending on what distance you do:
98km Ultimate Ride- the minimum age to participate in this event is 15 years of age on event day.
52km Challenge Ride – the minimum age to participate in this event is 13 years of age on event day.
29km Port to Perth Ride – the minimum age to participate in this event is 12 years of age on event day.
10km Family Ride – the minimum age to participate (meaning register and ride your own bike) is 5 years of age. Children 4 years of age or younger are permitted to ride in an Australian Approved Child Carrier and must wear an Australian Standard Helmet at all times.
When do I get my participant pack including event jersey?Participants who enter prior to the 6 Nov 2015 will have the option to purchase postage of participant pack. If you have selected postage you will receive your pack between the 10 and 19 Nov 2015.
For participants who elect to collect their pack or enter after the 6 Nov 2015, you will need to collect your participant pack at the Santos Great Bike Ride Event Shop which is open Friday 20 November between 9.00am and 5.00pm or Saturday 21 November 2015 between 8.30am and 4.00pm
Can someone collect my participant pack on my behalf?Yes, you can get someone else to collect your participant pack; they will just need a copy of your E-Ticket which is sent to participants the week of the event.
