Jason, a 20 year old resident at St of God Horizon House in Geraldton, recently landed a new job in the civil construction industry.
Jason spent 12 months persistently applying to get his foot in the door with a reputable company after earning a Certificate of Accreditation in Traffic Management a Certificate of Completion in Field-Based Work at WBHO Civil.
He is now employed on a casual basis with Tru-Line and working hard to earn a permanent position with the company.
“I’m loving my new job and saying yes to as many emergency call-outs as I can to really show them how committed and reliable I am,” Jason said.
He is able to respond to these call outs thanks to recently becoming the proud owner of a second-hand ute which he purchased after saving hard and receiving his first few weeks’ wages from Tru-Line.
“Being able to buy that ute was a huge achievement for me and I’m really proud of myself for reaching that goal,” Jason said.
“It’s given me a greater level of independence and it’s also making it much easier for me to respond to those emergency call-outs from work. I wouldn’t have been able to get to most of them without my own wheels.”
Jason has been a resident of St John of God Horizon House for three years now. In addition to his traffic management qualifications, he has also obtained certifications in CPR, laboratory skills, aquaculture, and hospitality while living at the House.
St John of God Social Outreach State Co-ordinator Youth Services West, Penny Bridges said Jason’s achievements are a testament to his hard work and dedication.
“Jason is a delightful young man with a bright future in front of him, both professionally and personally,” Penny said.
“He’s achieved so much since he first arrived at Horizon House. We’ve watched him grow from being a quiet and withdrawn boy into an engaging and determined young man with a solid network of friends and a clear set of goals.
“It’s been a privilege to be part of Jason’s journey. We’re extremely proud of what he’s achieved and the person he has worked so hard to become.”
