The Rotary Club of Perth, the first Rotary Club in Western Australia, opened in 1927. The club has weekly lunch meetings every Friday at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel starting at 12.20pm. It has a long established history of success in initiating and managing community service projects in Perth and internationally.
Members are from the top levels of their individual diversified professional fields including arts, architecture, banking, construction, consulting, education, finance, health, hospitality, law, mining, property development, real estate, share broking, and many small and medium businesses, to name a few.
The club conducts several projects targeted at helping young people reach their maximum potential. Two of these projects are: Passages - assisting homeless youth towards a better life; and Enterprising WA -raising the skills of young entrepreneurs.
The Santos Great Bike Ride has grown to be a major event that brings enormous community benefit through health, fitness, mass participation, cycle tourism, and promotion of Perth and its environment. In the Rotary spirit, the money raised supports health and youth projects.
The Santos Great Bike Ride was the initiative of the Rotary Club of St Georges. The event was created by St George’s members Garry Lawrence and Mark Hannaford. Their hard work and passion for the event through its formative years have seen it develop into the great event it is today. The Rotary Club of St Georges and the Rotary Club of Perth merged in 2006. The Rotary Club of Perth is proud to continue this outstanding event.
The Rotary Club of Perth owns the event and provides a broad base of support for it. We are proud to support, through this event, three very worthwhile charities: Hope for Children; St John of God Foundation Horizon House Project and the Heart Foundation.
